Stepping into KSL City Mall feels like walking into MBK Bangkok’s long-lost cousin, the one who’s slightly messier, louder, but way more fun. It’s a sprawling maze of supermarkets, cinemas, food outlets, reflexology joints, & more massage parlours than you thought existed outside Instagram. Seriously, you could get a hair-cut, a pedicure, and a full-body massage before lunch and still have time for bubble tea. The sheer number of massage parlours & salons is mind-boggling. You start wondering if they survive by sheer volume or Singaporean foot traffic, because, make no mistake, their neighbours from across the causeway are here in droves. They’re grocery shopping at LOTUS, catching a movie, eating their way through food stalls, & getting blissfully kneaded into jelly, all at a fraction of SGP prices. Our own indulgence tally? Pedicure (MYR48 for about 35 minutes), head spa (MYR90 for an hour), & full facial (MYR125 for an hour). We floated out of there looking (& feeling) like upgraded versions of ourselves, the sort of glow that would cost you a small fortune back home. Outside, the food game is strong. Think cheap & delicious street stalls serving everything from dim sum (don’t miss the famous Pin Ming Xuan nearby) to bak-kut-teh & fresh local bakery treats. It’s entirely possible to spend an entire day here without feeling even the faintest pang of hunger. For maximum convenience, you can stay right above the mall at KSL Resort Hotel, or just down the road at Holiday Villa. A shiny new Novotel is still waiting to be opened, perfectly positioned for rolling out of bed straight into shopping & snacking mode. Why do we prefer KSL over the fancier Mid Valley Southkey? Simple, KSL is chaotic, loud, messy, occasionally smelly…but it’s cheap, convenient, & oozes that vibrant, slightly unpolished character you only find in true-blue Asian malls. Mid Valley is big, sleek, & comfortable, sure, but you could be in any modern city in the world. KSL, on the other hand, is unmistakably JB!
